Being granted authority by the court to list the property is the mandatory step to manage the a probate sale. There is Full and Limited Authority that can be assigned to Executors and Administrators in a probate case. 

Full Authority gives Executors and Administrators the right to act on behalf of the property with less supervision by the court. On the other side, Limited Authority, requires more supervision from the probate court, and additional court hearing(s) to approve overbids.
